Parenting is the process of raising and educating a child from birth until adulthood. Most western countries identify the legal end of a parent’s commitment to their child at age 18 years, but that does not diminish the feeling of commitment and responsibility that extends beyond this point for many parents.

It is the responsibility of parents to provide for the physical, emotional, and intellectual needs of the child they are raising, by providing protection, shelter, clothing, healthy nourishment, healthcare, education, training, love, and a sense of belonging. Parenting is a job that lasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for a minimum of 18 years. “Becoming a parent is the most challenging job you’ll ever have, but it’s also the most incredible adventure life has to offer (Becoming Parents Program 2006).
